Girl Scout Friendship Pins

Girl Scout Friendship Pins
Brownie girls, that is.  They made friendship pins to send to our penpals in Colorado (Jessica, don’t look, they are in the mail).  I love how completely old school they are.  Did you guys make these in the 80’s?  Who out there still has one pinned to an old denim jacket from high school?  Our 3rd graders just loved these and did such a good job of making them, a very successful project.  We picked Girl Scout, Brownie, and Trefoil patterns from here, there are more patterns here, more patterns everywhere if you google friendship pins.
The basic supplies are:
A coiless safety pin
Regular 1 1/2″ safety pins
for the rest
Size 8 Japanese seed beads.  You could use any seed bead sold at a craft store that would fit on the safety pin, we went to Fusion Beads here in town because they have great colors and selection.  Emma is in the room making one at my studio table right now, they are addictive.
Thank you for your encouraging words on the shop update.  There are more things in the pipeline for Spring, as soon as they are done I will let you know.  And many of you have asked if there will be more charm bracelets.  My answer?  Of course!  Cover the world in charm bracelets I say!  I’ll let you know that too.  Soon…
Feeling back in the swing of things today, finally recovering from that lost hour maybe?  I am enjoying hanging out with my other girl in the studio, who is not quite as chubby as she looks in this picture, although gosh, maybe she is-

*Does everybody else relook at the title of their posts and wonder if its one that will target spam the way I do?  This one probably will.

They look great. I *so* remember making those. I don’t know where to find the coiless safety pins though. If I run across them, I may have to introduce those to my kid. They were such fun to make.

We only have the safety pins with the coils in the UK – nice projects though! With regard to the post title comment, I recently installed a live feed widget that allows me to track back the location and the keyword search of my visitors – it’s certainly provided entertainment! I found quite a few that have obviously been searching for saucy stuff and ended up at my craft blog instead! *lol*

I can’t wait for my daughter to be in Girl Scouts. I so remember making those and exchanging them at summer camps and wearing them on my ultra white OCD Keds!

I still have a flag pin that I made back in the 80s. We used the coil pins though. If you slide each pin through, one at a time like a key ring, it will lock them in so they can’t fall off when they open up.
Would you be interested in making swaps with a Florida Brownie Troop? We have 17 girls that are 2nd and 3rd grade. We love to make stuff too! Please pass this on to Jessica too!
Try this craft some time, our girls loved it!

How funny you should mention the title of your blogpost. I just changed the title of my post today after deleting the third spam comment on it. It is a post about a cloud formation that looks like a fish and I titled it “The whopper of all whoppers.” Yes, I did think about it before publishing but did it anyway. Take care and glad you had fun with the girl scouts. Cory

What a terrific idea – thanks for sharing the instructions. My daughter is a Girl Guide – this would be a terrific patrol activity for her. I am sure we will have made some before the day is out.

Hi! Lovely little pins. I remember those. DMC floss bracelets were also very popular. I found a link to great directions and they are just as fun to make as I remembered. http://www.makingfriends.com/jewelry/bracelet_klutz.htm
Too bad you have to worry about your post title – I didn’t even think of that.

i don’t think i’ll have a daughter anytime soon but i need to find some way to get involved with a girl scout troop! i love girl scout-y crafts like that! last night i was telling my friends about how in college, most of the songs in my sorority’s song book were camp songs that i knew from girl scout camp but with the lyrics changed and i was the only one who could bust out into all the songs. we sang linger for preference one year.

What fabulous pins. I think this is one to try with my Brownies though we’ll have to try with coil pins as I’ve never seen the other kind here in the UK. I think it could work though. Thanks.
