A DIY Inspiration Wall

Having some sort of pretty, inspirational area in my workspace has always been important to me. I tend to work rather chaotically, with huge messes, and I’ve come to accept that (I’ll never work neatly, drives Peter nuts!), so having someplace to rest my eyes, daydream for a minute, can really help me through. Even as a working girl, in my tiny workplace cubicles, I had things hanging that inspired me. There was a time a few years ago that I completely changed up the inspiration board that hung in my sewing room each season, in 2012 I even made a year of monthly inspirational desktop wallpapers.

Lately I am finding myself in need of space to quickly hang up things that I come across to save or that am inspired by, as well as favorite photos, images, and momentos that I don’t want to take down. When I moved my studio around recently, I lost the wall space above my desk where I used to hang up inspirational things. So I created a very quick inspiration wall area over the fireplace in my studio. This is hardly a DIY project, but sometimes we get stuck on the details of what to put the images on, or where they will go, and never just jump in, so maybe this quick version will inspire some of you. By using a level and pencil to create 4 straight borders, several colors of washi tape, and my stack of inspiration images, my impromptu wall of inspiration was up and running in a just a few minutes. I freehand fashioned strips of washi tape into a border to visually contain the images inside, while keeping a strong outline above the fireplace (I do need some order around this studio!).
There’s some good stuff on that wall.

Here were the images from my pinterest studio board that originally got me thinking about this idea.
I knew before I checked that this is Yvonne’s space-

love this. My work spaces are shared with others, and my writing space is highly visible, so I have to keep visual inspirations spare and tidy (not really my style, though—have to keep the hubs happy). I love the washi tape idea. I’ve thought of doing something similar with kids’ artwork in the bonus room. How did you do the time lapse thing?
