I can’t resist embroidering funny captions on bucolic toile fabric. This quilt is made from thrifted and vintage toile fabric remnants of all kinds, with lots of stitched details to make it full of interesting things to look at.

Directions to make this quilt are in my latest book Wise Craft Quilts.

Tufted

Tufted

Designed for the Fall 2018 issue of Simply Moderne Magazine. Tufted is a pattern and lesson in creating value depth in a quilt design using nothing more than the scraps you have in your in stash. Quilted with large X’s stitched in yarn across the quilt.

Instructions to make this quilt can be found in Simply Moderne Magazine Issue #14

MuuMuu 2

I completed this quilt as a #wisecraftstitchalong in my Wise Craft Quilts Facebook Group, which is no longer updated. I planned it out and stitched it on air through a series of FB live videos, teaching the basics of the needleturn appliqué method I use and inviting anyone to join in with me. It is a version of the original MuuMuu quilt I did in for my book, Wise Craft Quilts.

Candy Mountains

This is a second version of the Indigo quilt in Wise Craft Quilts. Made in a completely different color way during a major creative slump I was in. It helped pull me out of it! Read more in this post.

This quilt was chosen for the Quiltcon 2019 show gallery.

outback value

Outback Value

This quilt was designed to show off my friend Cathi Bissell-Brown’s beautiful fabric line called “Outback Wife”. The printed fabrics is a barkcloth base, and this is the entire line. I decided to create the on point diamond shapes by dividing the fabrics into dark and light values (even with very dark fabrics, you can find some that are light and some that are dark). The pompoms were a fun last minute addition.

Liberty Spikes

This quilt is paper pieced with my all-time favorite Liberty of London Tana Lawn Print. I manipulated the color and intentionally faded parts of the yardage. The New York Beauty “spikes” are sometimes light, sometimes dark, sometimes in between, but are all cut from the same fabric.

Sessoms

A foundation paper pieced pattern designed by Carolyn Friedlander. When I designed the Ruby Ruler™, I wanted to try the concept of designing with scrappy fabrics grouped into light and dark value categories on many different quilts that were not originally designed that way, quilts designed by other designers I admire. This one was perfect because Carolyn’s fabric choices on the original version were beautifully quiet and not heavily patterned. I was hoping this would turn out the way I saw it in my mind and it did. Made me smile every day when I walked into my studio.

Sunshine Medallion Quilt

Sunshine Medallion

Originally made for our bed, to cheer up our room through the dreary gray Seattle Winter, this became the first quilt pattern I ever produced for sale. Its been made many times and is still a wonderful way to show off a collection of beautiful fabrics in your favorite colors.
