These pincushions are handmade in every way. A sewing supply that truly feels comforting to hold in your hand. When I saw the beautiful work of Kristen Ballou, I knew I wanted to collaborate with her. Kristen’s pieces for this piece are inspired by “maker’s marks”, and “… by European and Asian mid century potters who create touchable, functional yet almost delicate wares with varied textures and colors.”
The top of the pincushion is a hand stitched, Japanese Sashiko stitch pattern, done by me. Tan cotton thread on a navy blue cloth base. See the photos for details.
Keep this special pincushion on your work table to remind you of the time honored tradition of beautiful, thoughtful handwork.
Potter Kristen Ballou‘s pieces for the Found and Foraged collection are inspired by “maker’s marks”. “…inspired by European and Asian mid century potters who create touchable, functional yet almost delicate wares with varied textures and colors. With these small pieces, I wanted them to resonate an old-world ambience. Almost like that of the feel and tone of the color of water on an antique map, muted, grounded, useful. Or a Japanese “yunomi”, the everyday tea cup, special but purposeful.”
Approximately 2 1/4″ in diameter and 2 3/4″ high.
The Wise Craft Handmade Found and Foraged Collections are handmade, small and limited. Always thoughtful and special. A wonderful way for me to stay inspired and keep producing original work. Each new collection of pieces allow me to play with new creative ideas, concepts, and materials. It has been pure joy to work on these pieces.
