These small batch pincushions are handmade in every way. A sewing supply that adds beauty to your creative space, and truly feels comforting to hold in your hand. The porcelain bases are created by ceramic artist Kristen Ballou, and the tops are created by me.
Kristen’s pieces for this collection are inspired taking the simple, the everyday and making it special. Her yunomi-inspired bases for these pincushions (which translates to the Japanese everyday tea cup), were glazed using a spectrum of ancient colors, those reminiscent of centuries past. Each glaze is different, as is each cup, none are purposefully the same. All are designed to cradle easily in the palm of your hand.
The glaze of this porcelain base is a subtle light ocean blue celadon with markings across the cup reminiscent of hand stitches. The top of the pincushion is a remnant of a shibori dyed remnant of silk from a vintage kimono.
Keep this special pincushion on your work table to remind you of the time honored tradition of beautiful, thoughtful handwork.
