Keep this special pincushion on your work table to remind you of the time honored tradition of beautiful, thoughtful handwork. Our lives are made better because of special pieces like these. May we never stop making.

When I saw the beautiful work of Kristen Ballou, I knew I wanted to collaborate with her. Kristen’s pieces for this collection are inspired by “maker’s marks”. The cups she created for the first Found and Foraged pincushions are “inspired by European and Asian mid century potters who create touchable, functional yet almost delicate wares with varied textures and colors. With these small pieces, I wanted them to resonate an old-world ambience. Almost like that of the feel and tone of an antique map, muted, grounded, useful. Or a Japanese “yunomi”, the everyday tea cup, special but purposeful.”

To complement her beautiful cups, I have hand stitched Sashiko patterns on vintage Japanese indigo Boro scraps for the tops.

The Found and Foraged Collection has been an idea in the making for a long time. My thought was to create a way to inspire me to keep producing original work. So often, when a creative passion turns into a business, the process can become overwhelmingly uninspiring. I don’t want that to happen. So why not challenge myself to create new pieces of art? New pieces that allow me to play with new creative ideas, concepts, and materials. It has been pure joy to work on these pieces.
