Handmade in every way. A sewing supply that truly feels comforting to hold in your hand. I invited artisan Kristen Ballou to make the cups, and this one also has a pattern of small openings. She stitched through each hole with slate Perle cotton thread. She creates these holes with great care to ensure the structural integrity of the vessel. The stitching on the top of the pincushion is a Japanese Sashiko stitch pattern in blue and white threads on vintage Japanese indigo scraps. Keep this special pincushion on your work table to remind you of the time honored tradition of beautiful, thoughtful handwork. We make our lives better with special pieces like these. May we never stop making.
Potter Kristen Ballou‘s pieces for this first Found and Foraged collection are inspired by “maker’s marks”. “…inspired by European and Asian mid century potters who create touchable, functional yet almost delicate wares with varied textures and colors. With these small pieces, I wanted them to resonate an old-world ambience. Almost like that of the feel and tone of an antique map, muted, grounded, useful. Or a Japanese “yunomi”, the everyday tea cup, special but purposeful.”
Approximately 2″ in diameter and 2″ high.
All the Wise Craft Handmade Found and Foraged Collections are small and limited, but thoughtful and special. A wonderful way for me to stay inspired and keep producing original work. Each new collection of pieces allow me to play with new creative ideas, concepts, and materials. It has been pure joy to work on these pieces.
