I have fallen hard for Japanese Sashiko hand stitching, a very old traditional “make do and mend” functional embroidery. Originally used on clothing or household goods that needed to last a long time, these hand stitches repaired worn areas with lovely patterned stitches and added a beautiful element of durability to cloth. The traditional patterns of Sashiko stitching are usually inspired by things found in every day life or nature (persimmon flower, woven baskets, ocean waves, to name just a few).
I hosted a free stitch along in the Wise Craft Quilts Facebook group during November and invite you to tune in to the Facebook Live videos to learn more about this beautiful, meditative hand stitching. I shared all the basics, demonstrating four different traditional stitch patterns, to complete a set of cloth coasters together, perfect for your own home or a holiday gift.
