Rope Basket

Rope Bowl
When Erin posted the rope basket she sewed, I loved it! But I had some questions. Was it as easy as she claimed? Does sewing the rope tough for the machine? Yes and no, she assured me, and I had soon secured 100 ft of cotton rope and was ready to sew. I’m going to play with the shape on the next one.
Guys, it is SO easy and fun! This is my first basket and it was less than an hour, more like 45 minutes. I definitely have more of these to make. You can find this project at Creativebug, available as single workshop.

My aunt makes these! I think she uses a bit smaller rope, but she also has cut strips of fabric (probably about 1/2-3/4 in wide) and wraps it around the rope so you can have baskets in any color. It also adds a bit more texture with the fabric. I always thought they were so neat but I feel like it’d be hard on the sewing machine.

I love this idea! Did you get your rope in Seattle? I’m heading there tomorrow.

I was only able to find cotton rope at Joann’s (its in their sewing supplies as clothesline rope in 100 ft packs), but didn’t look very hard (and I think I bought all my local Joann’s had). Might be worth checking Seattle Fabrics http://www.seattlefabrics.com/.
    It’s really fun!

It was not a problem at all for my sewing machine, I started with a fresh needle and it zipped right through it. I love the idea of adding the fabric strips for color!
