This design is a modern take on a traditional Attic Window quilt block, or maybe a traditional Spool Block. Blair is a fan of any design that uses the power of color value to achieve a discernible repeating shape, and this one was a fun one to play with. The center of each block–the “portal”– is the darkest color value in the block, making a sort of hole into darkness.
