Granny Square Sampler Afghan, Week 17, Showing You Off!
(All the granny square assignments can be found on this page.)
Hello fellow samplers! I am taking some unauthorized liberties today. I wanted to share some photos of some of the samplers that everyone is doing. One of the best parts of this granny square sampler project is, although we all crocheted basically the same squares, each afghan is so unique to its designer. So much color and pattern out there! There were times I was constructing this afghan that I started to wonder if it would end up one hot mess (you may have wondered that too!), but that couldn’t be further than what we’re ending up with. Just beautiful. Take a look at some of the in-progress afghan shots from our Flickr group–
From Grace, I love all the white space (pictured above).
And then I absolutely love the explosion of color (the pinks, cranberries, and reds really pop) in Melissa’s–
And in all of Daniela’s squares
And Lisa’s–
There are lots of colorful pictures on Instagram, by using our hashtag #grannysquaresampler you can view them and get more color injected into your Friday.
I don’t say it often enough, but I have really enjoyed crocheting this project with all of you. It has resulted in some often funny exchanges on twitter and instragram from folks who are learning to crochet along with this project. (Oh goodness, I really hope you have learned or relearned something, and that I just haven’t confused you to frustration.)
Please leave a link to your blog, flickr photostream, etc in the comments on this post, I would love to compile a list of permanent links of everyone who has been working on this project with us this summer.
We are nearly done! Enjoy your weekend!

September 7, 2012 at 12:18 pmIt has been fun as I continue to connect the dots so to speak. It has sparked a few more crochet afghans that I have already begun in conjunction with all my knitting! Thanks ladies!

September 7, 2012 at 12:29 pmThankyou Blair for this great idea! I was quite pleased on how it turned out. when I started I thought oh wow a jumbled mess of color, But so beautiful when it comes together.
I was originally going to use black as my join color, but my daughter and I definitely thought the cream was better. It’s been so much fun!

Thanks for a fun project. I usually plan my colors and symmetry very carefully, so this has been quite a change of pace for me to no know where I was headed!

September 11, 2012 at 2:04 amHi, everybody ! Here, in Normandie, France, all the pieces are ready for the plaid, all crocheted … and now is the real challenge of putting them all together to realise this plaid !!!! It’ll be an authentic “scrap sampler stash patch”, with a lot of strange colors and different mixes. I used a 5mm hook, for all, but the result is sometimes amazing !!! Some are so huge, and other very handsome but really small … Well, I’ll try to fit in a rectangular shape some of them for the inner rectangle …. My blog is dedicated to special embroideries, so I’ll find another way to show you the progress and result.

September 13, 2012 at 9:46 amOh! I’m feeling so inspired to start joining my squares together… just need to get past these September birthday party projects. I’ve written several posts on my blog http://mermaidsandmoss.typepad.com/mermaids-and-moss/ about this super cool granny square project. Thanks so much for organizing this project. You are so inspiring. Now I’m tempted to join in on the sketch a day project. Doing more paintings and illustrations has been my plan for this school year… just need to get the kids and I settled into our routines.

September 20, 2012 at 3:59 amI have not participated (TOO many other projects in the works right now), but have thoroughly enjoyed and am totally inspired by the work you all have done. I really liked looking at the flicker stream and would love for you to have a permanent link on your page of these projects.
I would love to know what inspired the colors for the afghans. All new yarn? Stash busters?
How do you avoid colors running when these projects are blocked?
