Vintage Book, The Cookie Book
Found my very faded, dog-eared copy of one of my all time favorite childhood books, The Cookie Book. I guess you could call it a vintage book now. It contains 12 recipes, a cookie for every month of the year. I ordered it from the Scholastic brochures that come home from school (and I smile at the idea of how little the whole Scholastic thing has changed over ht years). I loved the hand drawn illustrations. And I love that I marked my favorite cookies.
Ian has asked to make Mississippi Mud Pie from this book for Thanksgiving. It made me think of this little one, which is still in with my cookbooks.

November 23, 2009 at 7:15 pmOh my goodness! I had a newer version of this book. The Three-color Sugar Cookie illustration was exactly the same, though!
What memories!

November 23, 2009 at 8:19 pmMe too!! Got it the same way, and I loved the different colored doughs together in a log. I’ll have to scour my parents’ house this weekend for the book.
Thanks for the memory.

November 24, 2009 at 6:53 amOh my, I had this book, too, and miss it dreadfully. I believe my favorite cookie in there was an oatmeal raisin cookie, which involved soaking the raisins (in water, not rum or something interesting :-). I may also still have a copy of mine somewhere in my parents house, but if not, I’m going to try to track down a used copy.

November 24, 2009 at 6:56 amI had the exact same version of the book. I also remember ordering it from the Scholastic Book club. I was always so excited to bring home the little paper pamphlet fully prepared to convince my mother that I needed all five books that I’d marked….I’ll have to give my mom a call to see if she still had the book.

November 24, 2009 at 7:43 amWell I did not have this book, but I’m thinking I’d better find it!
For the moment though, I’m obsessively scouring ebay for all the old Peter Pan read-along record/book sets that I ordered from scholastic when I was little. My boys are getting a record player for christmas … I’m not even sure they’ll know what it is 🙂

November 26, 2009 at 1:49 pmI love that so many of us (myself included) had this very book. I loved when the Scholastic order forms were handed out and I loved that my dad always let me get everything I ever wanted from those flyers.

December 4, 2009 at 6:44 amYou just reminded me that I had that book as a child. I don’t think I ever made anything from it, just enjoyed reading through it and thinking of the possibilities! I know I don’t have it now, so I’m sure it went the way of many of my childhood things–left behind and given away during one of my parent’s many moves. Thanks for sharing and the trip down memory lane!
Smiles,
Dianne
