What an amazing trip I had to Lisbon, Portugal in September. Its the first time I’ve been to Europe since 1998. And I will not let it be that long before I go again. I went to take a week-long workshop with Elizabeth Olwen on pattern repeat. We also visited the tile museum, and the a very old tile factory. It was such a full experience, the whole week! I was actually ready for the ending when it came, only because I had made such an effort to be full present and take in as much as possible every single day. Making my daily pace quite different than the norm, but well worth it.

Looking at the tiles of Lisbon are amazing for a quiltmaker. Already, I look at some much inspiration around me- museums, runway shows, etc, and translate them (at least in my mind) back to quilt blocks. I’ve come to realize that its a reliable way for me to understand everything creative I want to make. There are traditional and more modern tiles in Portugal, something for everyone to see. Which was tricky because the tile sidewalks are cobble-y and slippery, gotta be careful!

Here is a photo dump of some of favorite moments from my trip, enjoy!
