New Found and Foraged Handmade Pincushions Coming

sashiko pincushions

I have been diligently working on a brand new collection of Found and Foraged Pincushions that will be hitting my shop in a couple of weeks. Many folks were sad to have missed out on the previous groups, so ceramic artist Kristen Ballou and I worked to make as many as possible available for this next collection. Keep reading if you want to know how to snag one of these beauties.

Kristen and I have been so pleased and grateful at the response we’ve had to these pincushions. Many of you have wanted to know when we’d have more. I’m happy to report that we have so many pretty ones in the works! (You can see previous #wisecraftfoundandforaged pincushions and other mini collection pieces in my Instagram highlights. I thought I’d give you just a peek into what we’ve been working on.

This next release will have at least a dozen pincushions. The bases for each of these is still handmade by Kristen Ballou, a local ceramic artist I’ve worked with on these pincushions for about a year now. Her work on these pincushions is based on the Japanese concept of Yunomi. This is an everyday, favorite-to-hold, favorite-to-use teacup. And yes, these really are a joy to hold in your hand. In fact, I will probably snag one for myself from this new batch. There are some new glazes and colors in this batch that I’m really loving. The base in the photo above, although its not easy to see in the photo, is a lovely rosy pink clay with a pearly glaze and a gold x.

In other words, all of these feel really special.

The kind of special that make me want to clean my studio and display them special.

I have used thrifted denim and some remnants from a Japanese boro cloth to make the indigo tops. All the sashiko stitching is done by me.

I’m also including some pincushions with tops made from silk kimono remnants. The golden yellow one above is shibori dyed. I fell hard for these pieces, I’m so lucky to get them.

When these pincushions are in my shop, they will be release to my email subscribers first. They will get a special link that will give them VIP access, before everyone else can see them. If you want to know when these are available, be sure you are on my email list, sign up below. Do that and you’ll be all set!
