New Pincushion Collection coming this week

Pincushion 51

Hello everyone! If you don’t follow me on Facebook or Instagram, you may not know yet, but my family is moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico! Which means that there is going to be a bit of a lag of studio work coming over the next couple of months. More on that very soon.

But first- Pincushions!

I have worked with Seattle-area ceramic artist Kristen Ballou on small batches of one of a kind pincushions for over a year now. She makes the bases, and I make the tops. This next release marks nearly 60 pincushions she and I have lovingly constructed.

The base of the pincushions all take their inspiration from the “every day” Japanese teacup, the Yunomi. Its the one that feels comforting to use, is the perfect size, and the one you reach for every day. This next batch has cyanotype blue velvet tops, just like the last batch. Cyanotype (or sun printing, as it is commonly called) leaves a ghost image of whatever you lay on the fabric or paper when you expose it to sunlight. I have printed all of these with small sprigs of Pacific Northwest plants.

This is a small batch and everyone on my email list is notified first. If you want to be sure you know when these are ready, be sure you are on the list. This will likely be the last batch for a while because of my move. Happy Sunday everyone!!
