Project Description
This design began as a spark of an idea that Blair had when she was looking through a tile book from the 1980’s (would that make it a vintage book?). At the time, she was also very interested in manipulating fabric with processes like cyanotype and color removal. By using the same Liberty of London print for both “sides” of a star, but using a color removal process on the fabric for one half of the star produced an effect of shadowing. The process uses Rit color remover, instead of bleach, to take away the color. It is not as harch and doesn’t break down the fibers of the cloth as much, and the results are unpredictable, which makes every fabric that is treated a surprise.
Quilts like this are wonderful bed quilts because the color and pattern does not overpower the rest of the room’s decor.
