Blair imagined a tufted sofa, or a pillow with a pretty button in the middle of it, creating a “tuft” when she originally designed this quilt. At the time she was also very interested in the idea of adding surface texture to a quilt, but not just with the quilting stitches. She added yarn X’s in a repeating pattern around the blocks, and “framed” the entire design with a solid border of light gray wool, deadstock yardage purchased from her favorite mill ends store.
