I have such a love for swans. All graceful and lovely above the water, feet working and paddling like crazy just under the surface. This embroidery pattern celebrates the graceful swan using the vintage craft of Chicken Scratch embroidery. Chicken Scratch embroidery is always stitched on gingham fabric, using the squares of the gingham as a grid to stitch your design. I have stitched many many hours of all variations of Chicken Scratch embroidery. I’m excited to share my best tips and tricks with you.

In this PDF pattern, I’ll walk you through the method I designed to stitch a beautiful swan. The patterning of the stitches is intentionally meant to cover more of the surface of the gingham and really make the swan show up. I’ve included templates for the swan facing both ways, so you can create a pair.
