Look through the rosy red tint of the Ruby Minder™ to see the value differences in your embroidery work.
As a lover of Chicken Scratch embroidery, I often play with dark and light color value in my work. I want to be sure the embroidery thread color I choose shows up well against the gingham fabric I embroidery on. I’m often looking for a little contrast, but not always a strong contrast. Looking through the Ruby Minder™ at my thread color choices and my gingham can allow me to pick up on the more subtle value differences in my work. It’s become an important part of how I choose thread colors for new designs, as well as how I restitch old favorites in new color combos.
To use it, place your fabrics and thread choices all together on a table. Hold the Ruby Minder™ between them and your eyes so you are able to look at them through the red tint. Use the different values to create cohesive embroidery pieces by making more intentional choices about how and where to place your threads.
And because I like products that can do more than one thing for me, the Ruby Minder™ can also be used to hold (or “mind”) up to 12 different thread colors and keep them ready to be used in your project. Just remove the bands from the skein of embroidery thread, make one cut through the skein, then loop through one of the holes in the thread. You can add the color band back over the threads to keep track of the color #.
