DIY Storage Boxes
Want to know a fun fact? I’ve had the IKEA wooden storage drawers pictured above in my studio space for as long as I can remember (don’t see them on their website sadly). At least since 2006, when I first covered the drawer fronts in scrapbooking paper. I remember because the photo I took and uploaded to Flickr became the most favorited photo of any I’d ever taken. Favorited 428 times to date!
These little storage drawers have gone through several DIY versions of themselves since that photo, they tend to change as my tastes change. So many things I tried to store studio items in seem to never be the right things, but for some reason these drawers have always been around, and have always been extremely useful.
Which is why I found an unpainted desktop companion piece at the thrift store a couple of years ago, I snatched it up, thinking somewhere down the road I would give the two pieces a new facelift. Last week, my order of gift wrap from Rifle Paper came in the mail and within an hour or so, these two pieces had a new coat of white paint and pretty floral drawer fronts.
Now they are both sitting at my studio desk. The small one has always held the same tools. The longer drawer set now holds my Wacom tablet when it’s not in use, a portable keyboard for my iPad, among other things.
My studio is still in the final stages of purging. I’ve had to mix purging days with work days, which slowed me down a little bit, but it’s nearly done and I’ll be sure to share soon!
Enjoy your Monday!
