DIY Magazine Inspiration From Living Etc

livingetc
My magazine obsession has almost completely reversed itself over the past few years. It was becoming a problem at one point. But one that I will never stop buying is Livingetc. I adore this magazine, and every time I say I won’t renew my subscription, I cave in. Honestly, this magazine has it’s share pretentious homes within it’s pages- or they aren’t pretentious and maybe I’m just mad because those homes aren’t mine. But truth is, it has been and continues to be a huge source of inspiration for me. Many of the projects ideas I’ve had throughout the years really sparked from Livingetc’s pages. I’ll see something, that leads me to something else, that leads me to a project. Happens a LOT around here. But I, like most of us, have many more seeds of ideas than time, so will someone out there please make these ideas so I don’t have to!? The DIY potential is killing me.
Gold Accents- Fake greenery sprayed gold. Done right, this could add the right amount of bling to one of your corners.

Chicken wire clouds. Yes, chicken.wire.clouds. Look at them. The last time I used chicken wire was for Emma’s light fixture, and honestly I’ve never seen it used to my liking any other way. But these are REALLY cute.

In lieu of a full-blown wallpaper project, what about painting a spray of branches on a wall or two? I love that these have a watercolor, Japanese minimalistic feel to them.
magazine4
Patchwork tapestry rug. Will someone please make this rug? I had an idea in my head similar to this for the book that just never came to be. It would be an undertaking for sure, to get the right pieces to patchwork together. But it’s so special and full of color, so interesting to look at!

Planter dresser. I’m sure you may, like me, have several chest of drawers in your house full of nothing that you could add plants to. (?????) Seriously though, find a bargain set chest of drawers at the thrift store and it would be a beautiful way to add interest to a corner that needs something, a blank wall in a dining room, or kitchen. Justina has a lovely version of this that works for less wall space.

Twinkle lights wrapped around a branch. I love this idea and think of how simple is actually could be?

I pulled this page for quilt inspiration originally, but I love the red vase and white flowers. Spray the vase red (or whatever color you choose) and spray the flowers white. Anyone that has read this blog for any length of time knows that I love a little spray paint. Tips for painting vases at Little Green Notebook.

Ignore the fact that this is a theme room (I have a love hate relationship with theme rooms), I LOVE what they did the armoires. The paint colors have such a nice dimensional effect.

And while you’re at it, spray paint a bunny blue and an alligator white to add to the room.

I *love* those chicken wire clouds, but I can just imagine the swearing that would entail if I tried them!

I see why you like the magazine, great inspiration.
Really like the carpet, the wire clouds and the painted bag.
Must ponder on how to make a painted bag one day.

living etc is one of my all-time favorites! i recently did a huge magazine purge (i thought about how you got rid of your martha stewarts a while ago and how you were so happy about it… you were right, it felt so good to say goodbye to them) but i can not bear to get ride of living etc. i’m pretty sure i will keep those along with all the old dominos and gourmets forever.
