I am excited to be teaching the Chicken Scratch Embroidery Basics virtual class with Tatter on July 9th. This is the 3rd year in a row I’ve taught this class and it’s a wonderful way to learn a bit about the history of Chicken Scratch embroidery and learn the classic, most recognizable stitch pattern that creates this beautiful technique on gingham. It’s a virtual class, with the recording available after the class is done for you to revisit the stitches we cover.
What exactly is Chicken Scratch Embroidery?
If you are unfamiliar with what this type of embroidery even is, start here on this page to learn about what makes this type of embroidery technique so enjoyable and pretty!
This year we are also offering a new class called Chicken Scratch Embroidery: Expanded Color and Design, on July 23. You see, there is so much to this beautiful technique, it’s impossible to cover it all in one class. In this new class we will continue learning beyond the first class (and it is suggested that you take the first class before this one if you are new to Chicken Scratch embroidery). We will cover ways to really personalize your stitches with pattern play, color inspiration, etc. I have prepared 6 different stitch templates to share with students during our time together.
I can’t think of a more perfect type of handwork for the summer months, when working on a large quilt seems like just too much. Chicken Scratch embroidery is very portable, easy to pick up and put down, and quick to stitch once you get going. I always have some to stitch on during movies and evening tv watching.
