I spent a week in Taos in the Summer of 2022 working on a personal project. I wanted to explore the idea of the scraps a quilt maker makes, keeps, and uses.
How small is too small?
I brought very limited materials with me for the retreat, so that I could really focus on that question. Color seemed to be the biggest motivation for each of these pieces. They were all such a joy to make.
No. 1 was the very first piece I worked on in this series. I was exploring the idea of the Classic Sunbonnet Sue block. I used scraps of a vintage tea towel with embroidered details, which I added it. Then I added silhouettes hand sewn onto a vintage bright green floral linen. There’s bits of the vintage embroidered napkin that was used in several other pieces in this series, and a little Liberty of London.

- Black frame measures 12″ x 15″
- 2″ deep shadowbox
- Piece is pinned inside with 4 Victorian era glass head pins onto a background of bright blue/green.
