Wise Craft PDF Patterns- A Primer

The current quiltalong for my newest quilt pattern, Dash, is in its 3rd week (and there is still time to join us if you’re interested, just visit this page). I am thrilled that I have gotten so many new followers since this quitalong began! Welcome to you all, we’re so happy to have you! I wanted to add some additional information for you in case you are ordering a PDF pattern from my shop. We are always trying to make the purchase process in our online shop as easy as possible, and hopefully this will clarify how purchasing and downloading a PDF pattern will work.
What is the difference between a "PDF Pattern" and a "Printed Pattern"?
A “Printed Pattern“ is printed and packaged here at the Wise Craft studio. When you order a printed pattern, you pay shipping, and we ship the pattern to you. Pretty straightforward. It comes packaged in a plastic, resealable sleeve, and is printed on double-sided, numbered pages.
A “PDF Pattern“ is a version of the same pattern that is able to be downloaded on your end once your payment is successfully processed. No shipping charges are incurred. If you order a PDF pattern, pay with a credit card or through one of the other payment processing systems offered on my site, payment is processed, and you are sent a confirmation email. In that email, you are provided a link to download your pattern file. This file is then downloaded onto the device you are on. Meaning, if you are on an iPad, and click the link, the pattern file is delivered to that iPad unless you specify to save it somewhere else (like a Dropbox folder, for example).
These are both the same pattern information for each quilt or embroidery project. The main difference is that you print out and view digitally a PDF out on your end, and you can begin as soon as you purchase. You must wait to receive a printed pattern in the mail.
I ordered a PDF Pattern, but did not receive the email receipt with the download link.
First of all, thank you so much for your order and for supporting my small business and design work! Often, these email confirmations can go directly to a spam or junk folder, so please check there and if you see it, mark it as “not spam” if possible to prevent that from happening in the future. If you still do not see any sort of email confirmation and need more help, please email us at [email protected] and we can help you.
I keep clicking the download link for the file, but I'm not seeing the file.
Sometimes, especially if you are downloading to an iPad, it is difficult to understand where the file goes exactly. Here is an Apple article on how to find files and folders. Please note that each time you click to download the file it counts as one download. You have 10 attempts to download. Read more in “How many download attempts do I have?” below.
My friend saw my pattern and would like a copy of it to make the same project
Quilt and embroidery PDF patterns are not like downloading and printing out a recipe from the internet. Sharing PDF patterns is very much like stealing. Alot of sample work, technical editing, promotion, and love goes into every single pattern we produce. Please instead encourage your friend to purchase her own copy of the PDF (or printed) pattern. It is not only the fair and correct way to obtain this information, it shows support for that designer. Please note that every purchased PDF pattern is automatically stamped with your name (the purchaser). We appreciate your understanding.
I'm looking at my PDF pattern on my Ipad and the image is turned on its side, making it difficult to read.
In the PDF version of my patterns, the front cover, and the “Quilt Layout” pages (1-2) are landscape oriented, and the instructional pages are portrait oriented. This is the best way to read your pattern without having the screen rotate each time you hold it up is to use the “rotate lock” feature on your iPad or iPhone, or print out the pages that are rotating.
How many download attempts do I have?
Every time you click the blue box in the image below (circled in red), one download attempt is counted. We allow 10 downloads (circled in red below) because we realize that sometimes its difficult to find the file, etc. If you have searched for your download files with no luck, and have used up your 10 download attempts, please contact us at [email protected].

And that’s really it! PDF patterns are kind of like instant gratification— within a click or two, you get your pattern file, allowing you to start making or planning right away!
