2024 Temperature Quilt Catch up
It was high time for a nice, long catch up and visit with my beloved 2024 temperature quilt. I realized I haven’t posted about it since August! I traveled quite a bit over the late summer and wasn’t able to put alot of time in… until now.
But over the past few weeks I have made time to work on this project and it has been such a wonderful distraction for me. (There’s always things in our lives we need to be distracted from these days, am I right?)
I will admit that when I created this project at the end of 2023, and planned to use all Wiltshire patterns in various colorways to represent the temperatures, I underestimated yardage amounts for a few of the colorways. The original idea was not so much that the colorways would shift from cooler colorways to warmer colorways exactly. But more like the colorways would sort of do that, but I also selfishly wanted the most visible temperature ranges throughout the year to be represented in my favorite colorways of the print.
It’s working for the most part, but where I underestimated the amount of fabric I would need for a few of the colorways, I had to find a similar colorway if possible. Or just switch to something else altogether. This hasn’t been something I consider a mistake because it’s all represented still. A few areas are just a bit different than I originally thought they would be.
The blocks to the right side of the photo at the top represent through mid-July. (I have completed more blocks, but haven’t sewn them into columns yet.) I am absolutely loving the shift in the colorways, the new colors popping up just glisten! I am currently working through September blocks and will soon be ready to sew a new batch of columns together to add to the layout.
You can see a fun reel I made of some of the new individual blocks on Instagram.
Read more about this entire project here, and here. (You can also find details on those posts regarding fabric choices and where I get them from.)
