DIY Doodle Rock Craft
When we were in New Mexico last week, we took a walk on the Paseo del Bosque Trail, which runs along the Rio Grande. I brought home a few rocks from there, because you know we love rocks! Later in the week, I spent some time in my father-in-law’s art studio, painting the rocks. It was so fun to do I thought I’d share.
All you need is a black permanent fine-line pen, some white dimensional paint, like this,
and your imagination. I knew I would just doodle on my rocks, and
luckily I’ve been doing a lot of that in my sketchbook lately, so there
was plenty of inspiration to pull from.
I just started drawing right on the rock.
Adding more lines and details around a central little flower-ish doodle.
When I’d covered the top of the rock, I used the white dimensional paint to fill in with more details. Dots, really. The dimensional paint is quite thick and makes a bright white dot.
I really like using this paint.
When it was all dry I wrote on the bottom of the rock to remember where I got it.
They now a small collection of these live in brown clay I found at the thrift store lately. (See Peter, it does have a use!)

January 7, 2013 at 5:52 amI love this idea, because we are constantly bringing home pockets full of rocks. I feel utterly compelled to buy every piece of hand thrown pottery at thrift stores, and that bowl is great!

January 7, 2013 at 4:45 pmThis is such a great idea, and a wonderful way to always remember your trip. I love doodling and I often try to come up with ways to incorporate doodle art into my crafts. I hadn’t thought of using rocks before, but they are a great canvas for doodling!
