DIY Striped Flower Vase
I think I’m still celebrating Cinco de Mayo, or at least wish I was. Maybe that’s why I’ve been so inspired by a beautiful serape blanket we have. I love how the colors in it are bold, summery, kind of off beat, yet work together so well. My love for these colors kind of surprised me. Isn’t it funny where we get our inspiration from? I thought it would be fun to recreate the stripe patterns with yarn on thrift store, mismatched glassware and turn them into flower vases.
DIY Flower Vases
Materials:
- Thrift store glasses or flower vases with an interesting shape
- Scraps of yarn in serape colors (Find inspiration on Pinterest)
- Mod Podge
- Sponge brush
To Make:
1- Starting at the bottom of the glass, paint the outside with a generous amount of Mod Podge, covering 1″ or so.
2- Begin wrapping your yarn at the bottom. Serape blankets typically have stripes of similar colors side by side, and as one color’s stripe gets wider, the other color’s stripe gets narrower. Wrap the first color around the glass 4-5 times. Begin and end each new color of yarn on the same side of the glass, which will become sort of the back of the glass. As you start a new color of yarn, lay it down on the Mod Podge (add more as needed) and keep the yarns lined up side by side as you wrap them around the glass.
And you know what? That’s really all there is to it!
