It’s time to move to New Mexico!

Our move date is coming up fast! SO, SO much can happen in the span of 6-8 weeks, it boggles my mind. We will be moving at the end of the month.

In some ways, this has been a very slow process, in other ways, very fast. We have been discussing making some sort of move for about 2 years now. This Fall, both kids will be out of the house and in college out of state. We’ve been in Seattle since 1996 and never really saw ourselves as living here as long as we have. But, you know, you have kids, and time moves differently. In anticipation of what comes next, we have had some discussions about ideas and made loose plans, then BAM! A worldwide pandemic hit.

Who knew?!?!?

Suddenly we had all four of us living in our house, working from home, with not a ton of energy to plan and not a ton to look forward to. We were all together, safe, and ok. That was certainly something to be grateful for. We spent several months doing puzzles, watching the news, rewatching LOST, Breaking Bad, etc. (That seems like a lifetime ago.) As time went on it seemed like working from home could become the new normal and we starting exploring what ifs. Seattle is a robust real estate market under normal circumstances (the speed of growth has never had enough housing inventory), and still surprisingly healthy even in a pandemic. So, we met with our realtor who took us through the ways that selling a house works during a pandemic and what safety measures are in put into place. We weighed the pros and cons and sat up at night thinking about what to do. And, as with most big decisions, there’s suddenly a decision made. One that feels quick, but really its not.

New Mexico has been on our list for years. We have family and friends there. It’s beautiful. An easier pace of life. We began looking in different areas, while putting our house on the market in Seattle. From there, everything sped up. We sold our home in 7 days, found a home in Santa Fe a few weeks later. Whew!

We have been packing up our house, going through our life. Laughing, letting go, remembering. It has been emotional, yet freeing. To get rid of the amount of things we have donated, given to friends, or otherwise parted with. Our new house is much smaller, at least temporarily (we are building an addition to it as soon as we can start).

The online shop is closed for all physical products, but PDF Patterns are now, and always available for immediate purchase and download. The shop will reopen fully once we’re on the other side of this move, but if you’d like to be notified when that is, make sure you are on my email list, that’s always the best way to keep up to date.
