My new, very old, vintage patchwork.
I am often gifted lots of old things from friends. Most of which is very interesting, and always thoughtful. Now that I think about it, a few things I’ve been given ended up being used in my upcoming book. I guess it goes to show that there is good inspiration to be gleaned from these gifts.
This box of hand sewn, paper pieced patchwork pieces is a recent acquisition, from my friend Dina. She wasn’t sure I would be able to use them.
Don’t be silly…
I adore them!!
The fabrics, which seem to be taffeta or silk, are wrapped and sewn around paper forms/templates. The print on the paper seems to have bled a bit onto the fabric in places. I’m thinking about about how to clean them. Since they have been sewn into curved 4 patch shapes, I’m a bit worried that the color will bleed. I’ve got some tricks to try. Let me play with them a bit and report back.
