Aurifil 2020 DOM Series- My January Block
Recently, I told you a bit about Aurifil Thread’s series for 2020, their free Designer of the Month series. This year, they are celebrating the new Color Builder thread collections. Each month a new block is posted by a different designer, inspired by one of these Color Builder boxes. I am kicking off the year with a block I designed for January, called called Milano. It’s inspired by the color builder collection “Milan Grey” and the city of Milan.
The “Milan Grey” Color Builder Collection by Aurifil Thread.
Read the full interview from me and more about this month’s block design over on the Aurifil blog. But in a nutshell, Milan is the perfect Italian city for me to get inspiration from. Working in the apparel industry, there would be a trip to Milan to “shop” the market (yep, shop!). To search for new trends in the apparel market, and see out the current buzz. It is so easy to get inspired by Milan’s beautiful architecture, energy, and food (oh! the food!).
The Thread
The Aurifil Color Builders box for Milan Grey contains 3 great neutral gray shades to coordinate with so many different fabrics. And these days, I only sew with Aurifil Thread. The quality is amazing and once I tried it years ago it quickly became my favorite sewing thread. Since using it and recommending it to my students, I have become an Aurifil Artisan and get to try out all weights and colors of their thread.
The Block
Read inspiration behind the block, and download free instructions to make your own on the Aurifil blog. The fabrics in the block are from Robert Kaufman, chosen to coordinate with the threads.
Look for a new free block every month of 2020 from a different designer from this year’s line up. And if you stitch up that month’s block, and post it according to the information at the end of this blog post to be eligible for giveaways each month.
