Meet your new quilt favorite design tool!
Created in 2017, the Ruby Ruler® is a 5 inch square acrylic quilting ruler. But thanks to its ruby red color, it’s much more than a ruler, to be used as a color value viewing tool.
The rosy red tint of the Ruby Ruler® filters out enough color and pattern information of individual fabrics to allow you to more accurately judge dark and light color value. Blair had used a similar tools to create her scrappy, colorful quilt designs, and found it quickly became an essential design tool in her studio.

“I love my Ruby Ruler® and Blair’s use of color value.”

Scrappy quilts with lots of colors and prints are definitely the favorite of the Wise Craft Handmade studio. But it can be tough to know exactly where to begin with a big collection of fabrics. They may not feel like they relate to each other at all. Should they be arranged by color? (How many?) Should you just embrace the true essence of scrappy and just go for it, even if you regret it later?
Many quiltmakers just throw their hands up in the air in frustration, or don’t know where to start to make their “own” quilt. They put all those fabrics back in their fabric shelves, and instead make a quilt from a kit, or a favorite designer’s fabric collection. At least all the fabrics will work together, right?
But what if playing with color and fabrics in new ways is the fun part for you?
