Join us for the Chicken Scratch Sampler Sew Along

I hope you are in the mood to do a little stitching along with me, because I have exciting news! How about a chicken scratch sew along?

I have been planning to create a sew along for a while now (disclaimer- these are a fair amount of work!). My newest chicken scratch embroidery pattern seemed like the perfect amount of “making together” and “sewing along” project to get us through these dog days of summer!

This new embroidery pattern, the Chicken Scratch Sampler, is designed based on my favorite historical stitching samplers. These samplers were often used to teach mending and embroidery stitches of all kinds to young girls, and if the end results were something worth showing off, they were often framed and displayed to show the stitchers skills. They were filled with a variety of practice stitches in all kinds of colors.

The Chicken Scratch Sampler finishes at approximately 18″ square, and can be finished into a mini quilt, a pillow, or a cover for a sewing machine (which is how I use one of mine), etc.

I’m beginning the sew along on July 22, 2024, and the first week will allow time to get your supplies, and be ready to stitch. We will begin into stitching in Week 2.

Below is the official schedule for the sew along! Once you buy the sew along online class (at special pricing during the sew along- just $27!), you will receive new instructional video lessons each week for 6 weeks. You can also post your progress, comment on others progress, and be eligible to win weekly prizes!

At the end of the 6 weeks, you will have a beautiful sampler of the nine chicken scratch embroidery patterns you’ve learned, with the confidence to apply these patterns to other projects.

Two types of fabric options!

Chicken scratch embroidery is normally done on gingham fabric. The “grid” of the gingham is the what is used to stitch your design.

But during the sew along, I am also carrying a second type of base cloth you can use. A Japanese cotton fabric with a printed grid of tiny dots on the surface that can be used to stitch the same patterns. When all the patterns are stitched, you will immerse the piece in cool water and the dots will wash away, leaving you with a solid fabric with perfect stitched embroidery patterns on it!

And as always, I have lots of supplies in the shop to help you get ready for the sew along!
